About the United States Secret Service

The United States Secret Service (USSS), also known as the Secret Service, is a federal law enforcement agency under the Department of Homeland Security. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., it has over 150 offices throughout the United States and abroad.

Mission and Responsibilities

The Secret Service's primary mission is to protect the President, Vice President, their families, and other designated persons. It also investigates counterfeiting, financial crimes, and other threats to the national security and economy.

History and Leadership

Established in 1865 to combat widespread counterfeiting, the Secret Service is one of America's oldest federal law enforcement agencies. The director of the United States Secret Service is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate.
