Coach Murat Yakin to Reveal Final Roster on Friday

The Swiss Football Association has announced a preliminary squad of 26 players for the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament in Germany. The final 23-man roster will be revealed by coach Murat Yakin on Friday, May 12, at 11:00 AM.

Notable Absences

There are a few notable absentees from the preliminary squad, including striker Haris Seferovic and midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri. Seferovic, who has been a key player for Switzerland in recent years, is currently recovering from a knee injury. Shaqiri, on the other hand, has not been called up due to his lack of playing time at his club team, Chicago Fire.

Key Players

The preliminary squad includes a number of key players, such as captain Granit Xhaka, goalkeeper Yann Sommer, and midfielder Remo Freuler. Xhaka, who plays for Arsenal, is expected to be a key figure in Yakin's team. Sommer, who plays for Borussia Mönchengladbach, is considered one of the best goalkeepers in Europe and will be looking to add to his 77 international caps.

Freuler, who plays for Atalanta, is a versatile midfielder who can play in a variety of positions. He is expected to be a key part of Switzerland's midfield along with Ruben Vargas of FC Augsburg and Edimilson Fernandes of Mainz 05.

Tough Group

Switzerland have been drawn in a tough group for Euro 2024, alongside Spain, Italy, and Turkey. They will need to be at their best if they want to qualify for the knockout stages.
