Carsley Makes Flying Start As England Interim Boss In Win Over Ireland

England interim manager Lee Carsley began his reign with a 3-0 triumph over the Republic of Ireland in an international friendly at Wembley.

Conor Gallagher, Bukayo Saka and Tammy Abraham scored for the Three Lions in the first half as they dominated proceedings throughout.

Carsley was handed the reins on an interim basis after Gareth Southgate was given a six-match touchline ban by FIFA for his comments following the World Cup qualifier against Poland.

He made four changes to the side that started in the 10-0 win over San Marino last month, with Gallagher, Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Fikayo Tomori coming in.

And it was Gallagher who opened the scoring in the 18th minute, firing home from close range after a fine run and cross from Saka.

Saka doubled the lead just five minutes later, curling a superb effort into the top corner from the edge of the area.

And Abraham made it three in the 39th minute, tapping home from close range after Gallagher had hit the post.

Ireland improved after the break but could not find a way back into the game, with England comfortable seeing out the victory.

The win was a pleasing start for Carsley, who will now take charge of the Three Lions for their upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.

He will be hoping to continue the good work of Southgate, who has led England to the semi-finals of the World Cup and the final of the European Championship.
